27 March 2024 – Dublin: Zodia Markets, the UK-headquartered institutional digital asset trading business backed by Standard Chartered, is pleased to announce new executive appointments for its Irish entity, marking a pivotal step in driving European expansion. The evolution of the leadership responsibilities follows on from Zodia Markets Ireland successfully registering as a VASP with the Central Bank of Ireland in November 2023.

Mark Richardson now assumes the role of CEO of the Irish business alongside his role as Chief Commercial Officer for Zodia Markets group. Michael Walsh transitions from CEO to Executive Chair, with both Mark and Michael being entrusted to oversee Zodia Markets Ireland’s governance, vision, strategic execution and spearhead growth in Ireland and the EU.

Lucia della Ventura also joins the firm as Head of Compliance, Ireland, reemphasising Zodia Markets’ commitment to maintaining a best-in-class compliance programme.

Ireland serves as the Group’s European Hub, selected for its vibrant FinTech and Digital Asset community and as a springboard for the transition to the incoming Markets in Crypto Assets regulation.

Mark Richardson, CEO Ireland and Chief Commercial Officer at Zodia Markets shared: “I am honoured to take on the role of CEO Ireland and Chief Commercial Officer, recognising the critical importance of bolstering our European footprint, especially as we navigate the transition to a MiCA-regulated business. Welcoming Lucia to the team in Ireland is a significant milestone, and together, we are committed to delivering a digital asset future free from compromise for institutions.”

Lucia della Ventura, Head of Compliance, Ireland added: “Together with the team, I look forward to leading the development of the European compliance function for Zodia Markets against a backdrop of significant regulatory change. As we plan our expansion in Europe, it presents an opportunity for our firm to empower institutional clients with simplified and safer access to digital assets.”
